Anesthesia

We never want our patients to delay or avoid care because of dental or surgical anxiety. That is why we offer multiple anesthesia options for adults and children at our three office locations and affiliated surgery centers.  Our team’s extensive anesthesiology training, coupled with a compassionate and personal touch, will put your anxiety at ease and allow for your procedure to be done comfortably and safely.

WHICH ANESTHESIA IS RIGHT FOR ME?

All three of our offices provide a range of sedation options.  Your doctor may recommend a particular type of anesthetic depending on the planned procedure and your overall health assessment.  With the Aspire team by your side, you don’t have to let fear or anxiety about surgery hold you back from getting the care you need and deserve.  Patients who undergo treatment with the help of anesthesia report minimal discomfort, and often little to no memory of the procedure.  This allows for them to have a relaxing and enjoyable oral surgery experience.

TYPES OF ANESTHESIA

To give you the best care possible, our anesthesia options include, but are not limited to:

  • Light sedation - the mildest form and can be administered through a local anesthetic, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), or oral medication. You’ll be fully conscious, and the treated area will be numb so you won’t experience pain during the procedure. We recommend light sedation for patients with mild anxiety about oral surgery and small, quick procedures.
  • Moderate sedation - administered through an IV and requiring less medication than deep sedation. This is a great option for patients undergoing more complicated surgery work.  You’ll feel deeply relaxed and may even fall asleep. Patients who use moderate sedation may have little to no memory of the surgery.
  • Deep sedation - also administered through an IV and available for patients with severe anxiety or those undergoing more extensive surgery.  Deep anesthesia patients often feel completely asleep during the procedure and have almost no memory of the treatment after taking deep sedation.  Doctors will assess patients as candidates for deep sedation during consultation.
  • General anesthesia - administered both in the office under the experienced care of our anesthesiologist Dr. Garrett Thiel, or in a hospital setting at one of our affiliated surgery centers, general anesthesia allows the patient to go fully to sleep for longer more complex procedures.

BENEFITS OF ANESTHESIA

Opting for sedation during treatment can benefit patients in several ways, including

  • Anxiety relief
  • Pain relief
  • Faster treatment
  • Quicker recovery time

Meet Dr. Thiel

Dr. Thiel was born and raised right here in Northwest Indiana. He completed his Bachelor's degree at Wabash College in 2008 then went on to continue his education at Indiana University.
